The Search for
Happiness
by Jagadguru Shree Kripaluji Maharaj (excerpted from a speech given in Hindi
Every soul in the world desires happiness. Why does he desire happiness? This he doesn’t know. What is happiness, where happiness is and how he will attain happiness, this he also doesn’t know. He has tried every moment since eternity to find happiness in the world and he will keep on trying for as long as that happiness is not attained.
We are a fraction of God who is happiness that is why, without being taught by anyone, we naturally desire happiness. Every fraction naturally desires its whole, and after attaining that, becomes complete. This is a law of nature.
Anand (happiness) is God’s name. Happiness is a word synonymous with God. We are a fraction of God, so we desire happiness. Whether one says ‘happiness’, ‘Bhagwan’ or ‘God’, all these have one meaning.
True happiness is of an unlimited limit and remains forever, whereas worldly happiness is limited and short-lived. God is the unlimited ocean of Divine happiness. With the Grace of God and Guru we can receive that Divine happiness which we have desired since eternity.
